Shenandoah Daydream

Shenandoah County Chamber Mural: Shenandoah Daydream

In Shenandoah County, we are a tapestry of people with various views about how to live. But there is one thing that truly unites us and that is our connection with nature.
Recently, I sat with a friend and we watched the fireflies and reminisced about stories on the river. We talked about how we used to hear the bullfrogs at night. Regardless of our differences here, our connection with the natural world in the valley unites us. Most of us have been on the river or hiked Big Schloss or watched fireflies dance in the summer heat. Most of us have run through flower fields, hopped over fences or watched how cows eat grass with their unending tongues.
With this piece for the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce, I wanted to capture that magical feeling of the valley. The nostalgia of the natural wonder with flowers, insects, mountains, and river. I tend to bring a hint of mysticism and fantasy to any piece I create. The very colorful mountains and giant insects give it a magical Alice in Wonderland feeling.
I want to thank all the people who stopped by and took the piece in for a moment. It was really great chatting and connecting with everyone. I want to thank Wetzel’s Rental for getting the scissor lift in the “Goldilocks” position…had to be just right for the thing to work to get me to the top. I want to thank Kathryn Batlle Strosnider for coming up with the genius title. It really is a Shenandoah Daydream. I want to thank Sharon Baroncelli and the Chamber for trusting me to make something beautiful and moving. I want to thank my family for all the support. Doing a big mural project takes time and effort and they really step up to make sure Adrian is where he needs to be and to make sure I am hydrated and fed lol.
It is an honor to use my painting skills in Shenandoah County to enhance our magical place.
